SCIENTIFIC & LEGAL WORK EXPERIENCE:
As a research scientist at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center, and subsequently, as a Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, he has published extensively on various technologies, cybersecurity, and patent law.
He is also a co-inventor on 20 U.S. patents. His scientific and technological publications and patents focus on rf circuitry, wireless communication technology, semiconductor device design, integrated circuit design and fabrication. His most recent work is on RFID technologies.
He has also served as a technical expert in patent litigations in the areas of wireless technology and systems, communication systems, electronic commerce applications, smartphone technologies, software and microelectronics.
Jay Kesan is a practicing patent attorney for over 20 years. He has served as counsel in many patent lawsuits, in federal district court, at the Federal Circuit and at the Patent Trials and Appeals Board (PTAB). He has been actively involved in virtually every aspect of patent litigation as counsel, technical expert, legal expert, Special Master, mediator, and appellate counsel.
He is also an entrepreneur and works with technology start-up companies in many sectors and enjoys working with others to make them succeed
ACADEMIC WORK EXPERIENCE:
He served as one of the inaugural Thomas A. Edison Distinguished Scholars at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
He is a Professor and H. Ross and Helen Workman Research Scholar at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is an active and widely cited scholar.
